Life is not easy and at some point we’re going to feel like we’re absolutely struggling and are unable to do exactly what it is that we want to do with our lives – like maybe we just weren’t meant to achieve this dream, or that one.
Everything feels hard sometimes, and a tremendous effort. We just end up exhausted and unmotivated. I know this is a blog about finding and keeping your motivation, but having times of exhaustion and demotivation is basically a fact of life! We all have down days; and I guess it would be weird to be upbeat and pro-active ALL of the time.
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes feel like I’m in a weird catch-22 situation where I feel tired and un-inclined to do anything at all, but I also feel frustrated because I’m not making the most of my time. Like how am I supposed to quit the day job in pursuit of better things when my mind and body just want to be still and zone out? It’s probably one of my biggest struggles.
The thing is, it is totally ok to feel like you just want to zone out. It IS ok to feel unmotivated from time to time. Take it as a sign that you need to rest and relax, to recharge before you go again. Feeling unmotivated doesn’t mean that you are going to fail. So rest up and do something, just for the sake doing it. Don’t burn yourself out trying to push through periods of demotivation!
After a bit of unmotivated down time, you may even find yourself afresh with new ideas or new ways to take on your dream. You may even get a strike of inspiration whilst you binge watch your favourite Netflix series.
Taking a break is important and necessary. The thing is to not get lazy! Rest, sure, but don’t get into a routine of doing nothing at all; because that is where you will fail.
