It’s Ok This Christmas

This Christmas eve I would like to remind you (and myself) of a few things that are often easily forgotten at this time of year…

It’s ok if you don’t see every single member of your family, your partner’s family, extended families and friends. There are 51 other weeks in the year to see people. Family is for life, not just for Christmas.

It’s ok to be lazy. Don’t work so hard ensuring that everyone else has a great Christmas that you get stressed and frazzled. Plan in some downtime for yourself and have a lazy movie day or something, without the regret and feeling that you should be doing something more productive.

It’s ok if you have forgotten something. Just accept it and move on.. you know, unless you’re on holiday and have forgotten your kid at home! 

It’s ok if you want to do something towards your life’s ambitions instead of seeing people. Family and friends will not always understand, but they’ll get that something is important to you if you’re making it a priority.

It’s ok to not do something towards your life’s ambitions. Yeah, you may have time off from the dayjob so essentially more time for it, but do not pressure yourself. If it happens, it happens, but it’s ok to simply enjoy your Christmas. 

It’s ok if you haven’t spent a lot of money on gifts. Even if you were well off, the amount of money spent doesn’t equate to the amount you love somebody.

It’s ok if you haven’t done Christmas cards. I haven’t done them this year. I have them and the intention was there but they weren’t a priority. Oh well. Will try to be more organised next year. 

Basically, whatever you do this festive period, it’s ok. Don’t get bogged down in this fantasy of how Christmas should be and just let it be. Whatever happens/doesn’t happen is ok. There are no rules, just ideas, so relax, have fun and know that it is ok to eat your 15th sausage roll if that is what you truly want!
